This just happened: US Judge Blocks California's Law Curbing Election Deepfakes. It’s more and more critical that we must be informed on current events.

Perhaps, the only way to fight misinformation, disinformation mail-information and the likes is to keep abreast of current events. A lot of it is just common sense. And if it’s too “good” to believe, fact check it!

There is a lot of news this week. Cyber security breaches and threats do not stop when there are hurricanes overrunning the news. In fact, they strengthen by taking advantage of the desperate state of victims. No, they may not be directly taking advantage of the victims themselves but definitely using them to target the people who are not affected. Be vigilant.

Glossary/Legend:

  • Trinity - Name of a new ransomware group

  • Ransomware - A type of malware that locks or encrypts a victim's files and demands a ransom payment to unlock and decrypt them. Ransomware can infect a variety of devices, including computers, smartphones, printers, and more.

  • Deepfake - a video or audio of a person in which their face or body has been digitally altered so that they appear to be someone else, typically used maliciously or to spread false information.

  • AI stands for artificial intelligence - a set of technologies that allow computers to perform complex tasks that typically require human intelligence

  • Quishing, or QR phishing - a cybersecurity threat in which attackers use QR codes to redirect victims to malicious websites or prompt them to download harmful content.

  • Phishing - the fraudulent practice of sending emails or other messages purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.
