So you think you’ve been hacked?

Think no more, it’s safe to say that you have - most likely indirectly. One or more of the institutions out there that you gave your data to, have been compromised in one way or another. So what should you do?

Most financial institutions provide security features to let you know when there are activities in your account. You can be alerted via an app push or text or email. If such service is not available, ask for it.

Glossary/Legend:

  • Cyber Attackers and Cyber Predators - these terms refer to people who use any kind of technology, including cell phones, to prey on us.

  • Phishing - an attempt to steal sensitive information, typically in the form of usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, bank account information or other important data in order to utilize or sell the stolen information.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) - works by simulating human intelligence through the use of algorithms, data, and computational power. The goal is to enable machines or software to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and language understanding.

  • API stands for Application Programming Interface. In the context of APIs, the word Application refers to any software with a distinct function. Interface can be thought of as a contract of service between two applications. This contract defines how the two communicate with each other using requests and responses.
