“Meta, Meta, thou art careful and troubled about many things.”
But one thing is needful: and MANY have chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her - DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH! Read the official statement of Hexagon Center on our reaction to Meta’s decision to remove professional fact checking services on their social media platforms. Meanwhile, we are still being attacked in the cyberspace. So keep your vigil up and look out for one another by sharing the stories you hear and things you experience. ☝️ TOP STORY
Despite Meta’s decision to remove fact-checking from its social media platforms, Hexagon Center remains committed to its mission. |
This decision by Meta only serves as an impetus for us to intensify our efforts in fostering independent research and encouraging critical thinking.
Additionally, we strongly recommend conducting independent research, seeking multiple perspectives, and resisting the allure of confirmation bias.
🤷♀️ What now?: Remember, when people put lies out there, it’s only to make you look bad. Don’t empower the bad actors by blindly believing their lies.

Glossary/Legend:
Confirmation bias - the tendency to interpret new evidence as confirmation of one's existing beliefs or theories.
Sniffing attack - in context of network security, corresponds to theft or interception of data by capturing the network traffic using a packet sniffer (an application aimed at capturing network packets). When data is transmitted across networks, if the data packets are not encrypted, the data within the network packet can be read using a sniffer. Using a sniffer application, an attacker can analyze the network and gain information to eventually cause the network to crash or to become corrupted, or read the communications happening across the network.
Pig butchering - a type of investment fraud where scammers gain a victim's trust and then steal their money. The term is a metaphor that compares the process to fattening a pig before slaughter.
Malware - A software that is specifically designed to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to a computer system.
Cyberattack - A malicious attempt to gain unauthorized access to a computer system, network, or device. The goal of a cyberattack is to disrupt or damage the target, or to steal data, intellectual property, or money.
Ransomware - A type of malware that locks or encrypts a victim's files and demands a ransom payment to unlock and decrypt them. Ransomware can infect a variety of devices, including computers, smartphones, printers, and more.
